The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
