The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
