The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
