Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. A'in. Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he called out to his Sustainer in the secrecy of his heart, 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said: my Lord appoint for me a sign. Allah said: thy sign is that thou shalt not speak unto mankind for three nights, while sound. 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And tenderness from Us and purity, and he was one who guarded (against evil), 13 and cherishing to his parents. Never was he insolent or rebellious. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
