And certainly We revealed to Musa, saying: Travel by night with My servants, then make for them a dry path in the sea, not fearing to be overtaken, nor being afraid. 77 Then Pharaoh followed them with his hosts and there covered them that which did cover them of the sea. 78 Pharaoh led his people astray instead of leading them aright. 79 Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemies and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount. We sent down manna and quails for you, 80 (Saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for your sustenance, but commit no excess therein, lest My Wrath should justly descend on you: and those on whom descends My Wrath do perish indeed! 81 And most surely I am most Forgiving to him who repents and believes and does good, then continues to follow the right direction. 82 ۞ What made you hurry away, O Moses, from your people?" 83 Moses replied: 'They are following me. My Lord, I made haste only so that I might please You' 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 So Moses returned to his people in a state of indignation and sorrow. He said: "O my people! did not your Lord make a handsome promise to you? Did then the promise seem to you long (in coming)? Or did ye desire that Wrath should descend from your Lord on you, and so ye broke your promise to me?" 86 They said: we failed not to keep thy appointment of our own authority, but we were laden with burthens of the people's ornaments; then we threw them, and thus the Samiri cast down. 87 and made a calf for them, a figure that lowed. "This," they said, "is your god and the god of Moses but whom he has forgotten." 88 So do they not see that it does not answer to any of their speech? And has no power to cause them any harm or benefit? 89
