The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
