The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 it will be a hard day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
