The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 and when the seas boil over, 6 when the souls are divided into different classes, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 when the scrolls shall be unrolled, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise is brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 Those that run [their courses] and disappear - 16 by the night swarming, 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy. 21 Your companion (Muhammad) does not suffer from any mental illness 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 He is not chary of making public what is unknown. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
