The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 And the night when it enshroudeth him, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
