He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
