The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
