He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
