Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Not at all but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
