And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 (Abraham) asked: "Do they hear when you call them? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
