He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
