Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
