The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
