The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
