The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
