He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
