The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
