The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
