۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They said, 'What, hast thou come to us with the truth, or art thou one of those that play?' 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said: 'Then bring him here so that the people may see, so that they may bear witness' 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 for We saved him and Lot, [his brother's son, by guiding them] to the land which We have blessed for all times to come. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 And Lut! We vouchsafed unto him judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him out of the city which had been working foul deeds; verily they were a people evil, wicked. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
