The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
