The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And withal, there has come unto them many a tiding that should have restrained [their arrogance]: 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 We have made the Qur'an easy to derive lessons from. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 22
