The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
