The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We made your sleep a rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
