The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
