(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
