Hath the story of Abraham's honoured guests reached thee (O Muhammad)? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 And he set it before them, and said: wherefore eat ye not? 27 Then he conceived a fear about them, and they said: 'Have no fear', and gave him the glad tidings that he was to have a knowledgeable son. 28 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice, she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said, "Even so has thy Lord spoken: and He is full of Wisdom and Knowledge." 30 ۞ [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Then for what purpose you have come, O Messengers?" 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 That we may send down upon them stones of baked clay. 33 They are transgressors in the presence of your Lord". 34 Then we brought forth such believers as were there. 35 – and We did not find there any, apart from a single house of Muslims – 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 As (there was) in Moses when We sent him to the Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 but he turned his back with his Assembly, saying: 'He is (either) a sorcerer or a mad man' 39 So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. 40 There is another sign in the [tribe of] 'Ad, when We sent against them a life-destroying wind 41 which turned everything it approached into dust. 42 In the Thamud [there was another sign], when they were told, "Make the most of your lives for a while." 43 But they disobeyed the command of their Lord; so they were destroyed by a thunderbolt, and they could only gape, 44 they could neither stand up straight, nor were they helped. 45 And before them, We destroyed the people of Nooh; they were indeed a sinning nation. 46
