The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
