Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
