The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the House inhabited 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
