The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 We put it into Moses's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake! 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
