۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity, 42 In gardens of delight, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 So behold what wise hath been the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
