And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 when he ran away to the laden ship 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow up for him a gourdplant. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 They believed in him so We granted them enjoyment for an appointed time. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Is it not of their own calumny that they say, 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Why do you not reflect? 155 Do you have clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if what you say is true! 157 And they have claimed between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought to [punishment]. 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So you and your deities 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except those who will burn in Hell. 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 “We would certainly be the chosen bondmen of Allah.” 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 That they verily would be helped, 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 So, [O Muhammad], leave them for a time. 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn away from them for a while. 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 And peace is upon the Noble Messengers. 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
