The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and give warning! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 it will be a hard day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
