a good many of olden times, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
