He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
