And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. 47 Every Sign that We showed them was greater than its predecessor; and then We seized them with Our chastisement so that they may return (to the Right Way). 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: “My people, do I not have dominion over Egypt, and are these streams not flowing beneath me? Can't you see? 51 “Or that I am better than him, for he is lowly – and he does not seem to talk plainly.” 52 “So why was he not bestowed with armlets of gold? Or angels should have come with him staying at his side!” 53 Then he incited his people and they obeyed him; verily they were ever a transgressing people. 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
