Thamud (people also) belied the warnings. 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 Has the [Divine] message been revealed to him alone of all of us? No, he is a boastful liar." 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 They shall send the She-camel as a trial for them; so watch thou them and keep patience. 27 And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn]. 28 But they summoned their [boldest] companion, and he ventured [upon the evil deed,] and cruelly slaughtered [the animal]: 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 We sent a sandstorm against them which destroyed them all, except the family of Lot, whom We saved at the break of dawn, 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning. 37 And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
