The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return unto his folk in joy. 9 And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back – 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
