He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
