The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And the House frequented, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
