The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste (the fruit of your deeds). We shall only increase your torment. 30
