The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall facilitate the path to affliction 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
