The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the mount. 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
