The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a few from later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
