The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
