Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 with a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and arranged cushions 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
